SYDNEY ROAD is a delightful and well maintained quiet one-way road and has a mix of terraced Victorian villas and semi-detached Victorian town houses with between two to six bedrooms.
The larger properties have off-street parking and most of the smaller terraced houses on the East side of the road have garages behind their back gardens with access via Dunstable Road. The vast majority of houses are still single residences although a handful have been converted into flats.
The road is very peaceful and very green with pretty front gardens, gorgeous magnolia trees and sweeping wisteria climbing many of the houses.
Average House Price: £1,625,000.00 (April 2020)
Local Knowledge & Neighbourhood Haunts:
Just off Church Road on the lower slopes of Richmond Hill, Sydney Road is only a few minutes walk to the train station making it incredibly popular with commuters. With the fast train from Richmond to Waterloo only taking 19 minutes, Richmond is also on the Overground and the District tube line making all of London very accessible. The town centre and Richmond Green with Richmond Theatre and Richmond adult and children’s libraries are within easy reach. Closer still is the multi-award-winning Off West End Orange Tree Theatre, producing acclaimed new plays and rare revivals.
For sports fans, Sydney Road is really well placed with Old Deer Park just a few minutes walk away. The park has extensive playing fields with rugby posts leading down to the river and it’s also used for when the circus comes to town, open-air concerts, sports and other cultural events and festivals. The park has Pools on The Park (indoor and outdoor swimming pools and gym), tennis courts, two playgrounds, London Welsh & Richmond rugby clubs.
Since 1892, most of the park has been used by the Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club. The park also houses the King’s Observatory established by George III in 1769 so that the King could observe the transit of Venus.
It’s in the catchment for the Ofsted rated oustanding Marshgate Primary School that is currently rated 34th in the country in The Times Top 500 List of primary schools in the UK (December 2019). There are currently over 20,000 primary schools in the UK, so that’s quite an achievement.
What the Neighbours Say:
“We love living on Sydney Road. Our neighbours are friendly and caring, we look out for each other and enjoy regular street parties (always with music and often with ad hoc entertainment from the residents!). We were attracted to the road because we could see the houses were well cared for, there’s very little traffic and it couldn’t be more conveniently located to Richmond station and the town centre”. Sharon
“Sydney Road is a quite residential street only 5 minutes walk from Richmond train and underground station. We love a wisteria tree here, the street looks gorgeous is spring when in full bloom. There are a mixture of terraced houses, one of them was the residence of the famous English actor David William Frederick Lodge 1921-2003”. Alba
